La Leche League was founded in 1956 by a group of women outside Chicago, Illinois, who helped each other breastfeed their babies when support for doing so was scarce. Meeting in each other’s homes, these women expanded their group and invited other community members to share their knowledge. The organization quickly spread and now is now helping families in over 60 countries. Our Leaders stay true to the original format of sharing knowledge from parent-to-parent, from generation-to-generation. At a La Leche League meeting, and by talking with a Leader, you will receive the same personal level of care and support that has made us the world-wide authority on breastfeeding support.
